Shifting Focus To Health & Wellness;
Our RTI Guides Now Available in 3 Languages

Dear Moneylifers,

The one significant difference that the virus has made to our lives in the past two years is to increase our focus on health and wellness. At Moneylife Foundation, starting this month, we plan to start a series of talks to help you choose what is best for your skin, your body and your general well-being.

How many of us ever bother to read the long list of chemicals that form a part of the smooth, perfumed, absorbent lotions that we lavish on our skins, especially in winter? We don't pause to think, because we are influenced by the headline and the advertisement. Many of you may attended the talk by Geeta Prakash, founder and CEO of Parama Naturals on Demystifying Labels on Cosmetic Products, know how different reality is from what is advertised. With real life examples, Geeta told us about the harmful chemicals present in common skin care products such as daily moisturisers, face wash and body oils.

Skin care products are used by all, so this was a gender-neutral session and a must watch for parents who worry about products they use on children. If you missed it, you can read about the talk here, or watch a video recording on our YouTube channel.

On February 15, we have a talk organised with Mukesh Pathak, a beekeeper based out of Uttar Pradesh, who sells pure raw honey through his company Faba Honey. While honey is natural sweetener that has innumerable health benefits, it is also a product that is widely adulterated with sugar syrup, which is designed at times to bypass food safety standards. Recently even the food and safety regulator, FSSAI has made changes to permit certain percentage of rice or corn syrup mixed in with honey, to be marketed and sold as pure honey in India.

Why does any of this matter? Quite simply because we, in India, do not merely use honey as a sweetener like Maple Syrup. It has specific uses in ayurvedic medicines and even in our rituals and ceremonies. So using the right honey that is not adulterated with sugar syrup is important. Do not miss out on another important session, register now and join us on 15 February to learn about benefits of natural raw honey.

We intend to conduct more such sessions on wellness. Meanwhile, we urge you to register yourself as a member to Moneylife Foundation and watch our financial literacy videos and share them – many members tell us that it has helped them avoid serious financial blunders and resolve issues related to banks, credit scores etc.

During the pandemic, our daily counseling sessions have remained suspended but our online Legal and Credit Helplines, have continued to remain open. Our panel of experts on both helplines continue to offer guidance on issues related to housing societies, insurance, banking, credit cards, and more. Do take advantage of this free service that is available to all members of Moneylife Foundation.

Many of you are already aware of our 'RTI Advice' app, which was launched for both android and iOS devices a year ago. The app allows a user to ask any question related to RTI, in a language of their choice and also in a format of their choosing (text, audio or video), along with a supporting attachment. We have 14 experts onboard the app, who are able to answer queries in English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and Tamil. The app is presently filled with over 900 Q&As, which are available as part of the searchable database on the app.

We have also recently updated the app with a resources tab, which displays comprehensive how to guides on filing RTI applications for specific use cases, such as matters related to the police, public sector banks, municipal corporations, regulatory bodies and more. Not only are these guides available in English, but they are also in Hindi and Marathi! You can download the app to access these essential guides or even access them from our website here.

Do watch the event if you missed it earlier and also watch the interviews with each of the finalists, conducted by Debashis Basu and R Balakrishnan. This was just our inaugural year and we are open to suggestions on how to make it better next year. Also, if you know of amazing companies that deserve recognition do email us at [email protected] with one paragraph on why you think the company deserves to be considered for the award.
