A Grand Giveaway of Books; Send In Your Nominations for Corporate Governance Awards

Dear Moneylifers,

In July we started a serious reorganisation and declutter of our Knowledge Centre in Mumbai. As regular members would know, Moneylife's Knowledge Centre has not only served as a venue for our Daily Clinic counselling sessions, seminars and workshops, but had a modest library of books of over 1000 books. A majority of these books were from our trustees and the collection grew with donations from members and some of our counsellors and speakers.

Moneylife members have had exclusive access to this excellent resource comprising books on investments, finance, travel, health, management, economics, valuations, capital market related reports, RTI, as well as reference books on law, property matters, biographies and much more. We have opened up this collection for book lovers in Mumbai willing to visit the foundation and browse through the collection. We are delighted that Rizvi College found 160 books useful and several of our members have already picked up dozens of books each. We trust and hope they will value the spirit in which they have been shared and encourage people to read more and learn about Moneylife Foundation.

Former Central Information Commissioner, Mr Shailesh Gandhi has joined our effort by donating 30 wonderful books to giveaway. If interested please do call our office 022-24441058 or 022-24441059 during business hours and plan a visit. This offer will be open until Independence Day.

Nominations for 2nd Corporate Governance Award

Our inaugural Corporate Governance Awards programme last year, was a huge success and gave us the opportunity to highlight a few amazing companies who create great value through good governance. It is now time to once again seek out nominations and honour a new selection of companies who have shown excellence in corporate governance. Please send your nominations to [email protected] with one paragraph to explain why you think the company deserves to be considered. We will continue to accept nominations until 15 August 2022.

Every nomination will get due consideration and go through a rigorous evaluation process to create a shortlist which would then be placed before an unbiased jury. The jury will undergo deliberations to further whittle down the shortlist to a final few, from which the winner and runner-up for our 2nd annual Corporate Governance Award will be chosen.

Last year, Hyderabad-based Natco Pharma Ltd and Chennai-based Thejo Engineering Ltd were the winner and runner-up respectively, from among five finalists who are each shining examples of good governance. Mr M Damodaran, former SEBI chairman, had announced the awards and also shared wonderful insights on what constitutes good governance and the many areas that need improvement. You can watch the video of the event on our YouTube Channel here as well as interviews with each of the finalists, conducted by Debashis Basu and R Balakrishnan.
