Dear Moneylifers,

Greetings! After an intermittent start, we are well into the monsoon season now. Even though heavy rains have disrupted services across the country, Moneylife Foundation has still been able to conduct seminars and daily clinic guidance sessions on most days.

On Wednesday, 2nd July, we met with stalwarts of several NGOs working with senior citizens and others on forming a pressure group to act on Senior Citizens' issues. The outcome of that meeting was to form four groups that would look into key issues concerning financial safety of seniors, health issues faced by them, changes required to The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens (Amendment) Draft Bill, 2018, Issues relating to old age homes and retirement homes and how they impact seniors and physical safety of seniors, including disaster management. I am writing to say that those senior citizens and organisations that would like to contribute to our research are welcome to join any of the four groups and write to us to participate in future meetings.

We had an interesting month, with a special seminar on ‘How to buy diamonds’ conducted by Rajiv Wadhwa, gemologist employed at the Titan Company. The session on diamonds was very informative and provided insight for the attendees on the intricate process of selecting a particular diamond. You can read the write up of the event here: How to buy a real diamond and watch the video here

We also conducted free guidance sessions with DG Kale, retired CGM from RBI, on every Friday to provide help on banking or credit related issues.

As always, if you are not a Mumbaikar, you can catch our events on Facebook live or watch them on YouTube. If you reside in Mumbai, you can also benefit from our free Daily Clinic guidance sessions to resolve your issues relating to Housing, Cooperative Housing Societies, Lok Adalats, RERA, Right to Information (RTI), banking and consumer complaints and many other issues that affect your daily life.

A list on activities and programmes conducted in June is attached below. Write to us if you have suggestions for future workshops or want a repeat of any of those conducted earlier – if there is a lot of interest, we will surely arrange another session. Watch out for announcements in July by becoming a member and getting on to our mailing list.
