Stop People From Getting Cheated; Share Moneylife's Financial Literacy Message

Dear Moneylifers,

Greetings. Maharashtra has announced a lifting of all Covid restrictions at the beginning of this month and we hope to start our physical counselling meetings after a two-year gap! Let us pray that the virus remains under control by continuing to remain vigilant.

As we begin our 13th year at Moneylife Foundation, one thing that keeps coming back to me is how newer people seem to get cheated by the same old tricks and usually discover us when it is already too late. Sharing an OTP, pledging gold and losing it, getting connect by multilevel schemes which assure a return by trading options in stocks or commodities – the tricks are the same it is only the victims who are different. That is why we say, just two hours spent on our comprehensive financial literacy video (How to be Safe & Smart with Your Money) at least helps you avoid mistakes.

For the longest time we have been trying to educate people on the fallacy of taking a gold loan – paying interest on a valuable and disposable asset. We realise that our message may reach a wider audience when translated and told as a story. So do share your thoughts on our first experiment with a financial literacy video in Hindi, which will soon be dubbed in other languages. Do watch our hindi video here.

Please share this widely – from your domestic help at home, to your colleagues and relatives, you will be shocked to find that everybody thinks gold loans are the best thing that has happened in the borrowing space without ever doing the math or considering the risk. A couple of clicks from you will save people a lot of money and heartache.

Remember our YouTube channel also had videos on a range of issues such as Wills, Credit cards, credit scores, wellness, digital fraud, avoiding money traps etc. We have now released shorter, re-mastered videos on specific topics to make them easier to understand and share. Subscribe to get the latest when it is uploaded.
