Dear Moneylifers,

Greetings! As we get set for the uncertainty of the monsoons, allow me to tell you about an unusual session we have planned for Friday, 8th June on how to buy diamonds smartly. Rajiv Wadhwa of Titan will explain to you issues like clarity, cut and caratage – so register now and don't miss this opportunity! Details here

We also plan a session on how to buy gold and understand issues of wastage, caratage, hallmarking etc., so keep a watch for that one by registering with Moneylife Foundation.

We had a busy month, which ended with two very special programmes: The Mumbai launch of Prof Shridhar Acharyulu’s (Central Information Commissioner) newest book – “Is Bribery a Family Business” -- at the hands of Maharashtra’s former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chauhan at a well-attended event in Mumbai, on 26th May; and a very interesting talk by Vithal Nadkarni, former Science Editor of Times of India on “Magical Properties of Everyday Foods That Can Transform Your Health”.

At a time when the Right to Information Act (RTI) has been under threat, our programme with Dr Acharyulu and Mr Chavan discussed RTI is an undeniable and uncompromising fundamental right. This was followed by a very illuminating discussion with an eminent panel comprising Shailesh Gandhi, Dr Anupam Saraph and Advocate Jamshed Mistry. I would urge you to watch the video of their speeches and the book launch here: https://youtu.be/vUgUOS8HYV4
Do read the write up of the event as well: “Information not given to citizens under RTI is leading to corruption across institutions” says Prof M Sridhar Acharyulu

In addition to providing free guidance in his daily clinic sessions every Wednesday, Shailesh Gandhi also gave a brief talk on 'Appeals under the RTI Act' this month. We also had renowned railway activist Samir Zaveri giving a talk on resolving railways related issues, focusing mainly on mobile phone thefts. We ended this month with another immensely informative seminar on the magical properties of ordinary foods by Vithal Nadkarni, former science editor at Time of India.
